In brief: RATP Développement and Veolia Transport ally in Asia

Posted on January 31, 2009 by Matthieu Desiderio

RATP Développement, a subsidiary of Paris transit network operator RATP and Veolia Transport, a subsidiary of Veolia Environnement annouced earlier in January that they will create a joint venture both investing 50% to develop their activities in Asia.

Both companies operate and maintain public transportation networks and the newly formed venture will start to develop in China, South Korea and India. In a region where transit is developing fastly, both companies estimate their venture to be worth €500 million by 2013. In this new market, Veolia will take advantage of RATP’s technical know-how and international brand image from Paris Metro operation. However, both companies are already active in Asia, Veolia operating networks in Seoul, Bombay and Nanjing while RATP has its engineering subsidiary Systra working in this market.
