Eurotunnel, the company operating the Channel tunnel, also known as “Chunnel”, awarded a consortium composed of Freyssinet, Eurovia, and Vinci to repair the damages occured during a fire on Sep. 11, 2008. The construction work are estimated at less than €60 million and could be finished by mid-February 2009.
In this renovation project, Freyssinet will be in charge of construction, Eurovia, through its subsidiary ETF (Eurovia Travaux Ferroviaires, Eurovia Rail Works) will replace the catenaries systems, and Vinci through Vinci Energies subsidiary will be working on all other phases of the project. The consortium contracted with Eurotunnel based on a four-month planning, thus leading to restart full operation early 2009.
