In brief: Keolis is prequalified for Melbourne transit

Posted on September 26, 2008 by Matthieu Desiderio

Earlier this month, transit operator Keolis, a SNCF subsidiary, got prequalified for two call for tenders in Melbourne area. Victoria State Government announced on September 9, 2008 that KDR, a consortium composed of the French operator Keolis and the Australian Downer EDI Rail was prequalified. The first project consists in the operation of the commuter rail network and the second project is for the operation of the largest light rail network worldwide (250 kilometers).

The final decision will probably be taken by mid-2009, and Keolis with its partner Downer EDI will have to face an important challenge: a more than fast traffic growth on Melbourne transit network (around +7.7% in 2007-2008 to 450.8 million trips).
