Posted on May 22, 2008 by Matthieu Desiderio

Since the last article about DHL USA situation, nothing came out either in the press or on DHL/Deutsche Post websites about the US operations… We received on Wednesday, May 21, a comment on the latest article about this issue (see References from the Transport Information Group below), telling us that “We will know on May 28.

According to the comment we received, DHL USA may apparently announce layoffs, and will possibly close some terminals. DHL USA may also revamp its sorting system to improve efficiency. One thing seems to be sure is that Deutsche Post will not abandon the US…

Looking for more insights, I have been around recent press release but did not find a lot of information. An article published on May 12, 2008 in East Bay Business Times discussed a particular warehouse that DHL Express USA is leasing in Dublin, CA. If “DHL Express USA plans to stay [staying] in Dublin until 2014″, why would they abandon their US activities, that is for sure…

Transportation company DHL Express USA will remain in its Dublin warehouse until 2014 under a recent lease renewal.

DHL Express agreed to a five-year lease of its [...] warehouse [...] in Dublin [...]. The deal includes extension options.

Let’s now wait for May 28, in order to finally know what is going on with DHL in the United States and to see if either FedEx or UPS will try to buy part of their opponent’s activities, warehouses, etc.
