In brief: Paris have a dream… car-sharing
Posted on January 29, 2008 by Matthieu Desiderio
Mayor Delanoë has a dream, that one day, Paris will have its own “Zip Cars“, more commonly known as car-sharing system.Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanoë wants to set up a car sharing system in Paris. He expects the city to provide 2,000 cars when operation starts in 2009, and wants the vehicle to be… electric-powered!
The invitation to tender will include this particular specification for the vehicles… As of today, unfortunately no manufacturer expressed any interest in this project, neither French (Renault, Peugeot-Citroën-PSA) nor foreign companies.
Paris Mayor, that may leave the office by June this year, intends to pursue its “less-parking-spots” policy to reduce the number of cars (and eventually decrease emissions, improve traffic flows, etc.) in Paris CBD. If the electrical-car-sharing project is implemented, Mayor Delanoë proposes to create “hundreds” of stations, with free power-supply to charge the vehicles.
We have been riding Velib’, free-access-shared-bikes, since July 2007… We may soon ride Paris made Zip Cars.
